Relentless Punk Fiddle & Lyrical Romantic Ennui - An extraordinarily good album. Un peu trop cher at the prices they re selling it at here, but definitely still well worth running down- might be found cheaper thru Amazon s French or Canadian site. I bought my copy in Quebec a few years back, and I gotta say that it s been a great companion. These guys have a wonderfully distinctive sound- Arnaud Samuel s manic buzz saw folk-punk fiddle drives everything, and Gaëtan Roussel s voice has that sharp languorously jaded quality to that is reminiscent of all the best punk singers, but is finally unlike anyone else s. The album hasn t a bad song on it, but my two favorites are the first song Amours - a nice sardonic poem on love, set to music - and a later song Fatigante, which I think may be one of my top twenty fav songs of all time (though admittedly there are a lot of songs crowding that list..) It s a great little love song, one that reminds of several girls of my acquaintance, and so s always good for a grin. It goes like this (imagine a rollicking, fraying fiddle accompanying these lyrics):Quand elle danse, belle, franche une reine, elle est pour moi, tout ça pour moi, un ange qui tourne autour de moi, et pourtant elle dit toujours bonjour comme ça, elle dit toujours au revoir comme ça, elle dit toujours j veux ça ça ça, elle est fatigante, fatigante, intelligente, négligente, excitante, désespérante, attirante, pas très galante, souriante.. etc. etc. etc. [a long staccato litany of adjectives follows..]As I say, fun stuff, good road tune, cheer you up on a grey day tune, remember your favorite girlfriend tune, you re a French teacher stuck for a good adjunct to a lesson on adjectives tune.. you know, just an all round great tune. Check it out. Final word: this band is great, the only negative thing I can say about them is that there s not a lot of variety between their songs- they tend to meld a bit together. I don t consider this to be fatal, though, because I love their sound so much. Samuel & Roussel have recently formed another group called Tarmac, whose music has yet to find it s way into my collection. A deficiency soon to be rectified. In sum, a worthy purchase, one you will not likely regret.
Give it a chance and you won t believe your ears! - Arguably one of the best and most creative debut albums...ever created.Louise Attaque happens when you blend classic French music with post-punk rock (trading the guitarist with...well, let s say a guitaresque violonist!).The result is a dazzingly mature effort. The success, too, was fenomenal in France. My way of seeing it is that the music is simply everything we had been wanting to hear for years but were afraid to ask...I won t tell any more. The album speaks for itself, it is a masterpiece, I LOVE it!
french flavor for contemporary music - i ve met this cd on a trip to france. I started listening to this album and it was kind of narcotic since once you push play you can t stop paying atenttion to the speaker. The lyrics are very good and quite deep in some songs. The introduction of the violin in this group is simply brilliant, on each song the tunes of this instrument are played in the most elocuent way. As regards the singer s voice, it has the texture of a bohemme bourgoise guy that has been smoking for years and lives his life sorrounded by intelectuals that gather together to discuss existential matters in a tiny cafe in le quartier latin. With this album you take a trip with brushes of energy, a bit of melancoly and introspective songs. As cigarretes have a typical french flavor this album tastes typically french.
Dave Matthews with a little Chutzpah - This album takes the folksy charm of Dave Matthews Band and loads it with some sort of visceral intensity. I think J T Emmene Au Vent may be one of the finest songs I ve ever heard!!! I wish I knew French better because the little I do know promises that the lyrics are as powerful as the music!
Truly Fantastic! - I have listened to this CD almost non-stop for the past year and have yet to grow bored of it! Whenever I need a pick-me-up, this CD will do the trick. If you understand French all the better as the lyrics are intelligent and quite catchy.
